Enrolment. Ontario Ministry of Education board enrolment, elementary and secondary, school years 2018-19 through 2024-25, from the Ministry’s Enrolment by grade in elementary schools and Enrolment by grade in secondary schools files (Ontario Data Catalogue), as reported by schools to the Ontario School Information System (OnSIS), October submissions. The Ministry rounds these figures to the nearest five. The 2024-25 files were last updated by the Ministry on 21 August 2026.
Participation. EQAO open data, Grade 3 and Grade 6 Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, board-level records, school year 2025-26, all students. Registered students are those EQAO records as registered to write each assessment. The share shown as fully participated is the number of fully participating students divided by the number of registered students; exempt, absent and no data are EQAO’s own categories. “Not shown at or above standard, counting every registered student” is one minus the number of fully participating students at Level 3 or 4 divided by the number of registered students: it counts every registered student who did not fully participate as not shown at the standard. EQAO computes its achievement percentages for fully participating students only. An exemption rate is marked, in red and in words, where it is at least double the provincial rate for boards with the same language of instruction. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole per cent, or to one decimal place where shown. EQAO’s open data does not include registered counts by sex.
Director of Education compensation. Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure (the Sunshine List), calendar years 2017 to 2025, for the position of Director of Education at each board. Salary and taxable benefits are shown as reported in the Sunshine List. Where a board changed Directors during a year, both people are listed and the year total is their combined reported amounts. Where a partial-year Director did not reach the Sunshine List threshold for that board, the year is marked as incomplete and no amount is shown for that person. Full and partial years are coded from a Director tenure register of appointment and departure dates (SBR-MasterData-DirectorTenure-20261012): a calendar year counts as a full year only if the Director held the post from the end of January through the start of December. The increase shown compares the salary paid for the position in the earliest and the latest full calendar years since 2017, whoever held the post in each; the two names are shown when they differ. 2017 was the last year of the provincial restraint on broader-public-sector executive pay, before boards’ executive compensation programs took effect. Years in which the reported amount appears to include a retroactive or one-time payment (a spike above both neighbouring years) are excluded from the comparison and marked under review in the data table. Post-employment payments to a former Director are listed but excluded from the comparison.
EQAO results by sex. EQAO open data, Grade 3 and Grade 6 Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, school years 2021-22 through 2025-26, board-level records. The figure shown is the number of fully participating students at Level 3 or 4 divided by the number of fully participating students, for male and for female students as coded by EQAO. The leading board is the district school board with the highest result for that grade, subject, sex and year among the 60 English-language or 12 French-language district school boards (school authorities, hospital boards and the Provincial Schools are excluded), matching the board’s language of instruction; it is named in each data table, alongside the provincial average. The six-assessment composite used in Results in context and in the compensation card is the share of students at standard across Grade 3 and Grade 6 reading, writing and mathematics, male and female combined. EQAO suppresses counts below ten students; no suppressed cell occurs for any of the 72 boards in these years.
Year total compensation = Σ (salary + taxable benefits) across all Directors reported in the Sunshine List for that year
Scope. All 72 Ontario district school boards. School authorities, hospital boards and the Provincial Schools are not included.
