For Parents & Families
If you are a parent, start here.
You want to know your child is safe at school. When something goes wrong, you want a clear answer and a clear path forward. That is reasonable, and it is what provincial policy is supposed to guarantee.
School Board Research checks whether Ontario’s school boards are meeting the rules the province sets for safety and conduct. We publish what we find in plain language, so you do not need to read legislation to understand where your board stands.
What you can do here
- Look up your board. The Board Report Card shows what our first round of reviews in 2026 found for your board, including how its published policies compare against provincial requirements.
- Understand the rules. Our plain-language guides explain what the province requires on codes of conduct, bullying prevention, and student safety.
- Raise a concern effectively. Take Action sets out the steps that work: starting with your child’s teacher and principal, putting it in writing, knowing the standard your school must meet, and keeping a record.
- Connect with others. Families who share information and act together are harder to dismiss. Our Resources page lists parent and advocacy groups across Ontario.
You are not the only one asking these questions, and you do not have to navigate the system alone.
